What is Reverse 911?

Reverse 911 is a computerized telephone calling system that can notify residents and businesses via recorded phone messages in case of an emergency situation (such as: a sewer mishap, civil unrest, missing child, etc.)

How does Reverse 911 work?

Each household and business within a specified area may receive a telephone message that will explain the situation and what to do. When the emergency is over an “all clear – emergency over” telephone message will be sent.  Each telephone number registered will be contacted only when the street address it is associated with is impacted by a disaster or emergency.

Who activates the system?

Only Police Department personnel are authorized to activate the system.

Listed and unlisted land line telephone numbers are already included in the database and do not need to be registered.  If your household does not have a land line, and instead uses a cellular or Voice over IP (VoIP) number and would like to be notified on that device, you may register the telephone number by going to the Nixle Registration Page and registering your cellular or VoIP phone number. You can customize your settings to receive other types of public safety notifications via text message or email from the Police Department, as well.  All information will be kept confidential.
