Please note that actual compensation is dependent upon participation in the medical insurance program, and if he/she does participate, the level of medical benefits the elected official is entitled to (single, 2-party, or family).

**Actual compensation and benefits after accounting for these variations range from $15,529.20 to $32,969.77 per year. 

PEPRA (Public Employees' Pension Reform Act) defines a new member as any of the following:

  • A new hire who is brought into CalPERS membership for the first time on or after January 1, 2013, and who has no prior membership in any California Public Retirement System.
  • A new hire who is brought into CalPERS membership for the first time on or after January 1, 2013, and who was a member with another California Public Retirement System prior to January 1, 2013, and is not eligible for reciprocity.
  • A member who first established CalPERS membership prior to January 1, 2013, and who is rehired by a different CalPERS employer after a break in service of greater than six months.
