Manhattan Beach Police Officers Unanimously Vindicated in Wrongful Death Lawsuit

Manhattan Beach, CA (April 4, 2017) — After a seven-day jury trial in federal court, Manhattan Beach Police Officers were completely exonerated of allegations that they beat an arrestee and caused a fatal skull fracture. The jury reached a unanimous verdict finding that the officers did not cause Ferreol Cardenas Jr.’s death.

In a civil rights and wrongful death case, Mr. Cardenas’ parents claimed that Manhattan Beach Police Officers caused the death of their 32-year-old son, after a traffic stop that occurred on April 10, 2014.

While the jury unanimously agreed that the officers did not cause the death of Cardenas, the City of Manhattan Beach and its Police Department extend our sympathy and condolences to the Cardenas family on the passing of their family member.

Mildred K. O’Linn and Tony M. Sain of Manning & Kass, Ellrod, Ramirez, Trester LLP, a law firm with expertise in defending public entities in civil rights cases, successfully defended Manhattan Beach.
